TMJ

Chronic pain around your jaw, difficultly opening your mouth, and a "popping" sensation in the joint of your jaw are symptoms of Temporomandibular Joint Disorder, or TMJ Disorder. TMJ Disorder is caused when the tissue around the joint between your lower jaw and your skull becomes inflamed. It can be caused by excessive gum chewing, grinding or clenching teeth, or joint conditions such as arthritis. Log Home Dental offers diagnosis and treatment of TMJ Disorder to bring you relief.

Diagnosis

We test for TMJ Disorder by checking the flexibility and motion of your jaw, taking X-rays of the area to detect inflammation, and by reviewing your dental health history.

Treatment

Treatment of TMJ Disorder is focussed on reducing the inflammation around your jaw and reducing the risk factors for the inflammation reoccurring. The inflammation can be reduced by stretches, massage and over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medication. In more serious cases we may recommend physiotherapy or surgery.
